CS34 Belleville

After a wonderful night's sleep, the floatilla decided they wanted to stay in Sandy Cove for another night while we made repairs.

Dennis on Cajun offered to sail into Belleville.  Dennis, Linda, Harvey, and I sailed into Belleville and got a slip on Meyer's Pier for a couple of hours.  Harvey's father in law lives in Belleville, and offered to give us a ride to Canadian Tire to get a replacement belt.  CanTire did not have a properly sized replacement belt in automotive. They did however have an appliance belt that would fit, so I got two.

When I got back to the boat, Harvey and I put the belt on, started the motor, and everything looked fine.  After about two minutes, we could hear the alternate kick in, and it started shredding the belt!

We determined that the appliance belt was not up to the task, so we disconnected the positive lead on the alternator so it would NOT generate any power, and ease the stress on the applicance belt.  This worked, but it meant we could not charge our batteries.  We ran the motor for about half an hour without issue.

Meanwhile, we had been running the 12v fridge and various other 12v stuff on the boat, and our house bank was getting depleated after two days.

We had an appetizer party on Aftica

Aftica was crowded with 14 people on board, but it was fun!

Jerry offerred to lend me his Honda 2000W gas generator.  When we went back to Still Time on the dingy, I noticed the anchor light was not working.  Rita went on board and there wasn't even enough juice in the house batteries to have the cabin lights come on.  I rowed back to Aftica and got the generator.

I let the generator run on the deck for about two hours with it sending 20amps of electricity into the depleated battery bank.

The next morning, we were off to Kerr Bay near Kingston.
