Continuing our commitment to race as much as we can this fall, we had registered for the Whitby 50 coming up on Friday September 17th. This is a 50 mile overnight race from Whitby to Toronto and back.
This was always a race that is run in mid June and worked well as a tune up for the racing season and the Lake Ontario 300. With Covid, they delayed it until the fall.
Last week, the forecast was for 10-16 knots of wind from the SW which would make for a fast race. With this wind we would typically be done the 50 mile race before dawn.
Well the forecast changed: using PredictWind for route planning:
We would not be finishing until Saturday evening and our average speed would be 2 knots!
We decided to withdraw saving delivery logistics both ways.
Besides, we had an AHMEN race in Humber Bay scheduled for Saturday!
