CS34 Scuppers

I have been getting water in the bilge after a hard rain and the aft cabin has been smelly musty.

I went on the boat to take some pictures of the rudder and drag link so that I can locate a below deck autopilot.   This involved removing everything from the starboard cockpit locker and crawling behind the aft locker (propane) locker.

Rudder post and drag link
Crawling below I looked at the port scupper hose:

For those who don't know the scupper hose drains the cockpit and propane locker.

The hose is severely cracked and looks like someone has tried to fix it with some duct tape.  Below the scupper hose you could see mildew where it has been leaking for some time.  This is very dangerous because propane could make its way into the boat.  Propane is heavier than air and will goto the lowest point in the boat.  Add a source of ignition in the cabin, and BOOM!

This is also very dangerous because if the scupper hose lets go, your boat will sink VERY quickly!  Bob Nunny from WYC suspects that a scupper hose let go and sent his Hunter 34 to the bottom of Lake Ontario in 600 ft of water.

Definitely going to replace these (both sides) in the off season.

Here are some entries on the replacement:
