C22 2014 Haulout

Little Still Time was the first boat of my fleet hauled out.

You might notice that they had to drop the boat and move the aft slings back.

C22 Final Sail

Got down to the club a little after 2pm after getting some running around done.

To my surprise, they had already lifted 6 boats out of the water.  If little Still Time was ready, she would have been taken out too.

However, wanted to get out for a last sail.

I went out singlehanded with a full main and #2.
Winds were 15-22 knots from the SSW.

Nice sail

Perfect amount of sail. got the boat moving between 5 and 6 knots.

Dropped the sails and pulled in a basin dock.

Glad I got out for a final sail.

Still Time is ready to be hauled out tomorrow.

There's Still Time

Got to the club in late afternoon.

Removed the spreaders and cleaned up the lines on mast of the 34, and with Walter Pingle's help we got our two masts in the racks.

Got Scott's Luff Affair de-masted.

Checked the cradles for level and lowered the pads.

Took the BBQ and outboard off the rail of big Still Time.

Deflated the dingy.

That leaves little Still Time, who is the only boat on dock 8 with its mast up:

I plan to get out for a final sail on her on Friday afternoon before dropping the mast.

Things to do

• mark lift points on both boats
• remove dodger/bimini on the 34
• clean and fold dinghy
• drop the mast on the 22
• move the 22 to the basin for haulout

Haulout is Saturday, and I plan to stay on the 34 overnight for the last time.

Pumpout Cruise on Mad Hatter

Commodore John Berry's Hatterras 38 powerboat was in need of a final pumpout, so John, Chris Mace, and I took her out.

It is a big deal to get Mad Hatter off the dock. 

Had to disconnect:

• four port docklines
• four starboard docklines
• waterline
• two electrical lines

It was dark when we left for the journey.

Luff Affair

New Member Scott from my work has his Tanzer 26 called Luff Affair at the club.  It was time for him to get his mast down.

This is first time he has had to do this, so I showed him everything.

• taking sails off
• taking battens out
• folding the sails
• removing vang
• taking lazy jacks
• removing boom
• loosening shrouds
• etc

Mast came down very easily, and we cleaned up the lines and move it to the mast racks.

CBYC to WYC on Impromptu

Michael Cullen is a friend I have know since my time at Newcastle.  He is part owner on the ACE syndicate, and was part owner of Coug.  He had won the Lake Ontario 300 on his 1970 Ericson 35 called Impromptu. He keeps Impromptu at National Yacht Club (NYC).

Since we could not get winter storage at NYC for ACE and Impromptu, they are both being wintered at the Whitby Yacht Club.

Haulout is Saturday, so Mike had to get Impromptu from NYC to Whitby.
We will be delivering ACE on Sunday.

Mike set out after lunch singlehanded from NYC.

Mark Backman and I borrowed a trailer from a club member, and drove to Cathedral Bluffs Yacht Club to meet Mike.  We load Impromptu's cradle into the trailer, and Mike and I headed to Whitby, while Mark delivered the cradle to WYC.

There was only about 6 knots of breeze from the east (right where we wanted to go).

It was very foggy, reminded us of Route Halifax Saint Pierre.

We motored out at 5 knots into the lake until we had enough angle to bring the sails up and turn the motor off.  We sailed for about half an hour at 4 knots.  The wind had dropped and shift a little north, so we would have sailed into the shoreline before Frenchman's Bay.  We tacked in about 35ft of water, and dropped the sails and motored the rest of the way.

On the way to Whitby, we completely de-rigged the boat, only leaving the upper shrouds connected.

We got to Whitby a little after 6pm, and went right to the mast crane and dropped the mast.

We put Impromptu in a slip on dock 7 beside Moonlight Mistress.

Sent Mike back to Toronto on the GO Train.

Holiday Monday

Rita and I spent the night on Still Time with the Dysan heater keeping us warm.

We removed and folded the sails.

I spend the next couple of hours

• removing the reef lines
• removing all halyards
• removing the stack pack and lazy jacks
• removing the boom vang
• removing the boom
• loosening the shrouds
• removing the mainsheet
• disconnecting mast wiring

Spent the rest of the day helping people drop their masts at the mast crane:

• Abracadabra (Morgan 33T)
• California Girl (Catalina 320)
• Wind Song II (Mirage 33)
• Skana (CS36 Merlin)
• Priority (Paceship 26)

There were several others.

Still Time's mast came down easily.

Did a final pumpout.
