Low and behold, one of the 8M called Gefion was going to be hauled out for an official measurement. We talked with the official there from Sweden setting up his transit to perform the measurements.
Who knew how modern these boats are underwater!
Balanced fin rudder, bulb keel with wings.
The guys were going over the fairing of these appendages.
Gefion going out of the channel on Friday under sail |
We left Sodus Bay a little before 10am and arrived in Oswego around 3pm.
The Oswego Yacht Club looked deserted, although a past commodore John answered our hails on VHF channel 9 and directed us to the slip. OYC operates the property rented from the City of Oswego. We had to go a a little shack up the road where a city employee registered us. $2 per ft per night with electricity.
The Port of Oswego is very industrial; noisy, dirty, and run down. The docks are new and the clubhouse was nice. We walked downtown get some groceries, including a visit to the liquor store, and pickup some cash as the city would not take a credit card. Not much happening in Oswego, Many businesses were closed and boarded up.
OYC hosted LYRA in 2012 |
Lots ofLLYRA flags in the club house |
The people in the club were very friendly.
I would not recommend going into Oswego if you can help it.
