The Beckoning Delivery Day 01 - Christian Island

We had arranged to leave our Shadow with WYC friend Debbie Sandford for the week.
Debbie runs a dog sitting/walking business, so we knew Shadow would be in good hands.

Shadow took an instant liking to Debbie!

We said our good byes and headed to meet Walter and Colleen at the Whitby Yacht Club for 10am.
Their vehicle, a GMC Acadia SUV was stuffed to the gills with all our stuff!
  • clothes
  • sailing gear
  • food
  • water jugs
  • beer/wine

Left my truck at WYC for Mark to get later in the week.

Quick stop at Tim Hortons for a coffee, and we were on the way to Midland.

We stopped at a french fry truck on the way to Midland:

The fries were DAMN GOOD!

We arrived at Wye Heritage Marina at 13:45.

Look how high the waterline is on the boat:

We proceeded to empty the SUV into the boat, lowering the waterline.

Checked the oil and coolant levels, and noted the engine hours (1510.9).

Took a while to organize below, we left the dock at 15:20

Casting off

Cleaning up lines

Saying goodbye to Wye Heritage fuel dock:

...and out into Georgian Bay:

We sailed for a bit heading north out of Midland, passing a nice CS36 under spinnaker:

But alas the winds were decreasing and on the nose as we turned the corner towards Christian Island.

We furled in the sails and leisurely motored the rest of the way.

We had several options on where to anchor:

Click for BIGGER

  • Beckwith Island West
  • Beckwith Island East (several boats there)
  • Sandy Bay on Hope Island (several boats there)
  • Mayne Point on Christian Island (several boats there)
  • Big Bay on Christian Island (too far south)
  • Big Sand Bay on Christian Island (couple of boats there)

The winds were supposed to come in overnight to 12-15 knots from the SW.
All of these anchorages would be protected, and we decided on Big Sand Bay on Christian Island.
It would be the closest to our destination tomorrow.

Trip Odometer: 22.0 miles

We dropped anchor at 19:45.

We all went for a swim:

The water was 21.4 degrees C... just wonderful!

Just look at the transom on that!

We had a wonderful dinner and enjoyed the sunset

Didn't catch anything

Pinot Grigio

We were anchored in a bay in the lee of Christian Island!
