The Beckoning Delivery Day 04 - Kincardine

We were up at 6am.

Coffee, breakfast.
Girls made some sandwiches for lunch while underway.

House battery was down to 10.9V.
The chart plotter would not startup until we started the motor to bring the voltage up.

We left the dock at 7:20am.

On the way out we passed the Chi-Cheemaun ferry to Manitoulan Island

Pretty KEWL!

Winds were forecast for 8-12 knots from the west, so it was a motor past the NW point of the Bruce Peninsula before raising the sails to head south on a beam reach.

However, we found that after turning the corner, the wind was from the SW 12-13 knots apparent.
Waves were 2-3ft.

We unfurled about half the main and jib, and found we were VERY closed hauled (30 degrees apparent) and could only do 4 knots of boat speed sans motor.  At that pace it would have taken 15+ hours to get to our next destination. So on came the motor to 2,200 RPM and we motor sailed at 6.5 knots the entire way.

Winds did shift a little so that we had to furl in the jib because it was doing nothing.
We kept the main up with the traveler to windward for some stability in the waves.

We passed the Bruce Nuclear Plant about 3 miles out:
Lots of reading, pretty comfortable really.

Waves did calm down as we got closer:

We pulled into Kincardine Harbour a little after 7pm.

Got at end slip overlooking the harbour and lighthouse.

Trip Odometer: 68.50 miles
Avg Speed: 5.8 knots
Max Speed: 11.0 knots
Moving Time: 11:52:00

Was a long time on the water and we were glad to goto shore and have a shower in the facilities of the marina.

Saw another CS34 (same as my boat Still Time) went out for a sunset sail:

Rita and I talked later at the dock to the owner Jim with his dog.
Same year 1990 as ours, but earlier hull #29 (we are hull #68).

Two wild and crazy guys using the post caps on the dock piers.

The shores of Lake Huron are known for their amazing sunsets and all we had our breathes taken away:

I got a call from Mark setting things up for our next stop tomorrow

He was asking if the phantom piper had started playing yet, and as if on queue, the piper started playing from atop the lighthouse

It was amazing!

We read about it in the cruising guide and were taken away by it.

We ate late at 9pm, BBQ ribs that Colleen had prepared beforehand and crashed shortly afterwards.

Night Night
