MUMM36 ZAMBONI ABYC Coastal Race

Continuing our commitment to race as much as we can before the end of the season, we registered for the ABYC Coastal Race.  This is a short 20-30 mile race from Ashbridges Bay to Frenchmans Bay and back.

We left the dock at National just after 9:30am taking the inside route.

Noticed a Baltic 76 called Tabasco anchored by RCYC:

This was the boat that I was supposed to crew on a delivery from Wiarton to Toronto (and Kingston and beyond) next week.  The skipper changed his plans to an earlier departure PLUS wants to charge me $1000 per leg to help him with the delivery.  NO THANKS

The first gun was 10:50am, so were were cutting it fine.  We motor sailed with the main to get to the start area during the 5 minute race start sequence.  Before the start, the race committee postponed the race, and sent us into ABYC because of incoming "Severe Weather".  Radar app showed a large storm cell in Humber Bay coming this way.  Fortunately it passed north of us, and we just got a short smattering of rain.

We rafted up with several boats in ABYC:

NYC Boats
Zoomer
H Bomb
Zingara

Rafted next to us was a J/105 called Mandate from RCYC owned by Canada Cup skipper Terry McLaughlin.  Really nice guy, talked with him for a long time.  He took great interest in our MUMM36 and liked our bowsprit.

We hung out for a couple of hours, had lunch, had a beer, and the race was scrubbed because there wasn't any wind!

We motored back to National on the outside.

Going around Toronto Islands, the RPMs on the engine dropped off to almost idle, then would come back to normal without touching the throttle.  Really weird.

We suspected we had water in the fuel.  Once back at the dock, we removed the engine cowl, and sure enough, we had some water in the Racor fuel/water separator.   Tried to bleed the fuel system, but could not get the air out of the system.

We decided to leave it and called NYC marine mechanic Tony to come and give it a once over.
He agreed to come tomorrow (Monday) night.

I only recorded our track to get there:
