CS34 Collins Bay and Kingston

We slept in a little bit, and Rita's sister Wendy called her.  She was in Kingston coming back from the cottage this is on Wolfe Lake near Westport north of Kingson.  They have a rental property for Queens students that their son Derrick was going to do some work on.  Wendy and Derrick came to the Marina, and I drove him to the property downtown Kingston.

On the way back, I stopped at West Marine, and bought a new Garmin GPSMAP 76CS to replace my ailing black and white GPSMAP 76.

After they had left, I changed the oil and filter, and mounted the new belt.  I had found a manual for the Balmar alternator, and they said to really tighten the belt, spin the alternator with a wrench and it should not slip.  Well I gues that could be what our problem was, as I really had to force the alternator to get the belt tensioned enough.

The motor started no problem, and I could hear the alternator kick in in about a minute.  From the battery monitor, the alternator was drawing 60 amps of current!  The Balmar alternator is rated for 70 amps.  As we reved the motor, there was LOTS of smoke coming out of the exhaust.

I let the motor run for about half an hour, then retensioned the belt.  The belt had stretched slightly.  I ran the motor for another hour until there wasn't any more smoke or oil however slight coming from the exhaust.

Checked the engine oil one more time; we were lucky, the motor was fine.

Took the time to install the stantion blocks for the furler line.  Works well, keeping the furling line off the deck.

In the meantime, Harvey and Rod were successful at installing the new motor mounts on French Vanilla.

In the late afternoon, we walked to the local No Frills.  We bought too many groceries and had to carry it back.  We loaded up a bag we had brought with the heavy stuff, and the rest of it went into a cardboard flat.
About half way back, the bag ripped open dumping groceries all over the sidewalk.  Somehow I carried all the groceries the rest of the way.  What a pain!

Saturday moning, Rita and I jumped on a bus ($5 for both of us) near the marina and half a hour later we were in downtown Kingston.

WE LOVE KINGSTON!

We checked out all kinds of shops on Princess Street.  We went into the Army Surplus Store and bought a couple of hats that actually fit my head!

Nice Hat
We had lunch at our favourite restaurant Chez Piggy on the patio.  IT WAS AWESOME!

Chez Piggy Ceasars!

I got a haircut from a local barber; he did a great job.

We met up with everyone at pub by the waterfront.

Captain Morgan!

Rita and I walked to the LCBO and got some more wine, and bottles of Sortelege (whiskey liqueur with maple syrup) for Yvan, Harvey, Rod, and Jerry for thank yous for helping us out.  YUMMY!

The group had reservations for 8:15pm for dinner, but we had to get back because the dog was on the boat all day and had not gone pee, so we took a cab back for $20.
