CS34 Kerr Bay to Collins Bay

Kerr Bay is a protected cove EXCEPT when the winds come from the NE.  At about 3am, the winds swung from SW to NE and picked up to about 15 knots.  The lapping of the waves woke up up, and Rita popped her out of the V berth hatch to see Aftica right beside us.  I got up and let out another 30 ft of rode so that Aftica would swing in front of us, and went to bed.  After the experience in Cobourg, she was worried that the anchor would drag or we would hit Aftica, so she stayed up all night.

I woke up around 7am, and saw Jerry having a coffee in the cockpit of Aftica.  Told him I had let out 30 more feet.  His reply "Good Thing!"  Aftica was swinging in front of us.  I think what happened here is we had put out 80 ft of chain/rode, while Jerry had put out maybe 140 ft of chain/rode.  When the wind shifted, we were on top of each other.  Lesson learned.

Collins Bay Marina said they were full and could only take the two boats that had engine troubles.  There is a poker run will cigar boats that were taking all the available slips.

We hoisted anchor shortly after 8am with Sea Beyond and French Vanilla.  We ran the motor only get get out of the bay, and sailed to Collins Bay, tacking several times.  Winds were about 12 knots from the NE (right were we wanted to go!), and were gusty.  We had to tack lots to get into Collins Bay, sailling right up to the last channel markers.  We started the motor and went right to our assigned slip.  It was good to hookup to shore power and charge our batteries!

Rod from Silhouette raised the Marina on the VHF 68, and asked where in Collins Bay, the remaining five boats could anchor.  Miraculously, they found slips to accomodate everyone.

We quickly organised a trip to Pride Marine.  It was a walk about four miles around Collins Bay.  Half way there it started pouring.

To my surprise, Pride Marine had the belts I needed, oil, and filter, so I was good to go.  Also got some blocks to get my furling line off the deck and on the stantions.

Harvey also got lucky, as they had two motor mounts for his boat!

We all went to a Bistro for a late lunch beside Pride Marine.

Rita and I cooked up a nice dinner aboard Still Time.

We all had appetizers and drinks on Sea Beyond.
