CS34 Impromptu Moonlight Cruise

Full moon on Wednesday, and it was spectacular!

Decided to run a final Friday moonlight cruise for the Whitby Yacht Club.

Rita and I got out on the water a little after 8pm with Todd from work who took sailing lessons this summer with the club.

We had three boats
  • Still Time
  • Pro Paria (Hughes 38)
  • Vamoose II (41ft trawler)
We had maybe 5 knots of wind from the WSW, and with full sails on close reach, we could only muster 2 knots of boat speed. We sailed for a while, but we were sailing south of the Ajax Buoy, so we furled he headsail in, and motor sailed with the main at around 5 knots.

There were clouds on the horizon, so we did not see the moonrise.  A little while later the moon appeared from behind the clouds; man it was bright.

It was a little cold, but we dressed warmly

Lovely Rita

It was nice to be out on the water for a final moonlight sail.
