CS34 Thanksgiving Sail with Dad

This is the third season with the CS34, and I have been meaning to get my Dad and Step Mom out for a sail.  The Whitby Yacht Club puts on a Thanksgiving Dinner that we try to get to every year.   Checking long weekend weather, the conditions looks perfect to get Dad and Betty out on the water: Sunny and warm (16 degrees) with about 10 knots of breeze from west.

They came down a little after 2pm.  Rita brought her Mom along too.  It was the first time Dad and Moeder (Dutch for mother) had met.

We toured around the harbor, then headed out the channel into the lake.  After a couple of minutes Rita and I had the sails up and the motor off, sailing along at around 5 knots comfortably on a beam reach.

We only went one mile out into the lake and turned around as we had to get to the Thanksgiving Dinner at the club!  It was great!

On the way back, we passed Abracadabra, our friends Mark and Christine's boat with son Charlie on the tiller:

Looking good!

Taking the sails down, I could not get the jib to furl back in.  I discovered that one of the furling line blocks had let go and wrapped a couple times into the furling drum.  Since I would be dismasting the following day, we dropped the foresail on the deck.

It was a nice visit, and the last sail of the season.

Thanksgiving dinner was awesome, and the best part is we didn't have to clean the dishes!
