At the skipper's meeting I convinced Steve Moffat to come out with me.
We rigged up the racing main and #1 genoa. Something is binding on the main halyard, and we had trouble hoisting the main. Going to have to drop the mast to figure it out. Oh well, have to do it anyways to get the wind instrument cabling fixed; heck the main halyard could be wrapped around the instrument wire.
Light winds, but we were able to get the boat going close to 2 knots MOST of the time. It was a little cold and we had to have long pants and a jacket on.
In the 2nd leg of the first race, we bobbed around at 0.0 knots for a while:
That little bit of racing above took over an hour!
We came in 2nd place corrected in the first race:
We waited around for an hour and and half (!) for the other division to finish before starting the 2nd race.
Much the same winds in the 2nd race. Conditions were light and shifty as the predicted shift from the SE to the NW came in. At one point we didn't have any steerage, and a puff of wind just pushed the bow around and we did a 360.
The winds filled in from the north west, and VERY warm, had to take our jackets off. The wind filled in at 15 knots and we had too much sail up, but we feathered the boat to get the mark.
We got the winds first and took first place in this race, enough for us to win out class in the regatta. You can see above where they filled in and we screamed to the finish.
First flag of the season! |
The after race BBQ after fun.
