One of the last opportunities to sail ZAMBONI this year.
- Me (bow)
- Mike (helm)
- Ash (pit/runners)
- Phil (jib/spin)
- John (main)
- Dave (jib)
Winds were 9-12 knots from the SE, warm and the sun was out!
At the dock, we hoisted the light #1 and Big Blue spin to dry out:
Before packing them up and stored them below.
We hoisted the main and #2 and sailed just south of Gibraltar mark.
The main looked GREAT
Here we hoisted the code0 and doused the headsail.
It was a disaster!
We forgot to attached the code0 cunningham line and had to douse it right away.
We attached the cunningham line and the sail just doesn't work.
The luff is too long for fractional and too short for a masthead hoists.
Plus the masthead was deflecting like 12" to leeward in 12 knots of breeze.
The bowsprit worked great!
Next we hoisted the yellow asym from Still Time.
Luff: 45 ft Leach: 40.80 ft Girth: 22.5 ft Foot: 22.5 ft
Sail Area: 801 ft
The standard asym sail area for a MUMM36 is 814 sq ft
A little small on the shoulders and foot (could use more sail area).
We could not sail any deeper than 120 degrees apparent.
Was easy to fly and got the boat going over 9 knots 75 degrees off the wind.
We did a gybe back towards Port Credit.
Coming back into to National with the #2, the boat was on rails!
Ash took the helm:
