CS34 Trip East Day 01

Rita and I had done tons of work organizing the boat, and had a nice dinner at the club.

We COULD NOT find the fins for the standup paddle boards.
They are useless without them.
Rita went home to look for them.
Later that night, we found them wedged in a salon locker behind something.

After dinner, I could not find my wallet, and searched endlessly for it.
We found it wedged between the binnacle and cockpit table.
Such is my life: I LOOK FOR THINGS

In the meantime, I lashed the folded up dinghy and the two paddle boards on deck:

Still Time was ready for the arrival of our sailing friends Don and Judy.

They arrive around 10:30am.

Took Don over to his old boat on dock 6:

Catalina 30 Marietta

We left the dock a little before 11am.

Winds were forecasted for 8-18 knots from the southwest (broad reach), so we raised a reefed main in the harbour:

We motor sailed with main about 2 miles into the lake so we would clear the shoals east of the Whitby.

We made the turn to Cobourg and unfurled the jib.
Well there on only 2-3 knots of wind out there!
Motoring at 3,000rpm yielded 6 knots of boat speed and since we were going faster than the wind, the jib was backwinding, so we furled it in, and motor sailed @6 knots.

Very comfortable motor sailing with the main stabilizing the boat is the 2-3ft swells.

Just past Newcastle, the winds filled in from the south to 14 knots on a beam reach, so we unfurled the jib and were sailing along at close to 7 knots.

We passed Peter Rock:

..and into Cobourg harbour

Got a slip next to Yvan & Kim on G dock:

Doug Norton from Whitby came in a little after us with his 43ft power boat.

We all had a shower in Cobourg's excellent facilities.

We had a really lovely dinner at the waterfront Italian restaurant.

Always good.

We liked their Californian Long Barn Chardonnay so much, we bought a case off of them for the trip.

We had a nightcap drink with Doug, Moira, and her son on their boat called "No Shoes Please" LOL.
