Great sleep on a ball at Prinyer's Cove!
Rita and I were up a little before 8am, and I went to shore to pee the dog:
Winds were only 5-6 knots from the south: not enough to sail, so we motor sailed at 6 knots with the main only.
Judy and Rita were below and Jude was reading the Ontario Sailor magazine to Shadow:
The plan was to head into Confederation Basin and make reservations at Chez Piggy for dinner.
Judy proposed that we head further into the 1000 Islands and anchor for the night.
DONE
We past Kingston Yacht Club:
As we approached Wolfe Island, the winds were still only 6-8 knots from the SW (broad reach).
Decided to rig for the spinnaker and turn the motor off.
Well, as soon as I hoisted the spinnaker, we got blasted with 20+ knots of wind!
Rita went below to pull the spin in, I went to the bow and blew the tack, letting the chute depower behind the main. I forgot to bring in the sheet and the spinnaker went way out to leeward.
Got the sheet to Rita below, and Don eased the halyard and got the spin down in short order!
Rita noticed that there were two small rips near the tack on the spin:
The flogging before we got it down opened a couple of seams.
By then the winds had dropped back to the 10-14 knots, so we unfurled the jib and turned the motor off.
Had a really nice sail along the south shore of Howe Island and the lee of Wolfe Island.
Saw a couple of tugs pushing working barges:
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING |
