CS34 2020 Cruise East Day 08 - Navy Islands

Up at 7:30am, took dog to dock for a pee, breakfast of hash/eggs.

We hoisted anchor a little after 9am and were motor sailing on the back channel ferry route to Gananoque.

Winds were from the SW 10-15 knots, tried to sail where we could.

Several years ago, we put an offer to purchase a condo here, we backed out of the deal because there were too many restrictions on resale, and the proposed marina was not approved.

4 years later, they are starting to build it AND the marina is still not approved.

Yellow on the GPS track is where the condos are.

Date on the photo is Aug 03, 2016:

Maybe one day when they are completed and all approved.
Not ready for a condo yet.

We pulled into the Gananoque Municipal Marina.  They offer free mooring for 3 hours.

We walked into town with the dog.
Much of the downtown is closed on Mondays (including the LCBO!)

Picked up a couple of things.  Rita had packed for late August sailing, thinking it might be cold on the water, but it had been very hot all week.  She picked up a couple of summer tops.

Had lunch in an outdoor cafe by the ferry docks.

Saw another CS34 in the marina:

We were back to the boat by 2:30pm.

We motor sailed east destination Mulcaster Island, part of the Navy Islands group.

We tried to anchor the the lee of Mulcaster, but there were several power boats anchored there, so we went inside by Downie Island:

Trip Odometer: 10.3 miles
Avg Speed 3.1 knots
Moving Time: 03:20

Yellow star is where we dropped anchor

Anchored in 10ft of water, let out 70 of chain, and we drifted to the NE into 40 ft of water.
Lots of swing and away from the other boats.

Great for swimming:

There for 5 other boats in the anchorage.
Time for a drink!

Great place to anchor because we could dingy over to the docks on Mulcaster Island to pee the dog.
Most of the other islands around are private meaning you can't go ashore.

Yellow is the Mulcaster dog peeing station

View of the boat from the island:

Spectacular island cottage with a deck cantilevered over the water:

Spectacular dingy ride at sunset!

Best shot of the trip:

Night Night
