CS34 2020 East Cruise Day 04 - Prinyer's Cove

Up again at 8am.

Peed the dog across the bay

View from across the bay:

FLAT CALM

We toured around the harbour because we could, getting back to the boat at 9am.

Bacon and Eggs for breakfast.
Nothing better than good French Pressed coffee.

Checked the oil, coolant, and fuel:

We were down to 1/3 of a tank of diesel (started with 3/4): we will get fuel in Kingston.
We had a 20L jerry can in reserve.

By 10:30am we hoisted the anchor and were underway:

See ya later Picton

Winds were 8-10 knots from the west, we sailed up the arm from Picton on a beam with full main and jib.  Very fluky winds coming down off the bluffs of the reach.

As we bore away to the east down the Aldophus Reach, winds were pretty much dead downwind.

Yellow arrow shows where the wind is coming from

Too dead downwind for a spinnaker, as we would have to gybe all the way down the reach (something we don't really do on Still Time).

Poled out the jib to present maximum sail area getting the boat going over 4 knots sans engine.

In the puffs, we would surge to over 6 knots of boat speed.

Very relaxing, we sailed most of the way as we knew we had a shorter day on the water today.

YES, that is a spin sheet on the lifeline
Rigged but not used

We passed a sculler:

Trip Odometer: 14.83 miles
Avg Speed: 4.0 knots
Max Speed: 7.6 knots
Time on Water: 03:39

We took a mooring ball at Prinyer's Cove Marina just after 2pm.

Prinyer's Cove Marina is owned by WYC friends Jim and Shelly.
I worked with both of them on the board at the club a couple of years ago.
Just all around nice people.

We went ashore at 5pm to have a drink with Jim and Shelly at their house.
Nice to catch up with them.
What a great spot!

Back to the boat at 6:30pm where we made a nice spaghetti dinner.

Tomorrow Kingston!
