CS34 Splicing Dynema Lazy Jack Lines

For the past 9 years I have had the stack pack with lazy jacks to easily lower and stow the main sail.

WORKS GREAT

Every year I would string the same old parachord lines through the rings on the lazy jacks, and tie bowlines to the batten that runs along the upper edge of the stackpack.

This year I purchased a 100ft spool of 1/8" dynema in blue from Amazon ($37) to replace them.

Also purchased some small blocks to run these lines through.

At anchor, I took the old lines off and duplicated them using the dynema integrating soft shackles in the ends.

Measured 8" from the end:

Burned the ends with a lighter so they won't fray.

Opened up the Dynema with a fid at the mark:

...and created a locking loop:

Next tied a double overhand knot in the end as a stopper knot:

Open up the loop and pass the stopper through:

Here it is with the new block:

Run the stopper knot around the batten, and close the locking loop on it.

Twas an easy at anchor project that took maybe 2 hours to complete.

The blue dynema doesn't exactly match the teal canvas, but it will fade in the sun.

Will make commissioning the boat in the spring much easier!
