We were up at 7:30am and some had showers.
Checked our fuel, and we had half a tank left.
That's about 30L of diesel, more than enough to motor back to Toronto the entire way if needed.
Here is a shot of Moxie beside us:
By 8am it was time to start our way home.
Once we cleared the shoals off Simcoe Island, we hoisted the A2 Tiffany.
Winds were 7-8 knots and a perfect wind angle to sail to Main Duck.

After a while with wind built to 16 knots and we had to douse and hoist a headsail.
Winds clocked a little to the right and the headsail was getting blanketed by the main, so I pole it out to windward with the spinnaker pole:
Winds then dropped down to 10-12 knots and this sail config got us past Main Duck.
I ran an electrical circuit to the tiller auto pilot:
Very chill with the autopilot steering:

Another awesome sunset:
When we were coming in last night, I noticed a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust.
Michael and I removed the engine cowling and checked the oil (added 1/2 liter), the alternator belt (was fine), and cleaned out the raw water strainer (it was partially blocked). The restricted flow meant that the raw cooling water from the lake was turning to steam as it hit the hot motor. We never overheated. We have not run the motor this much in a long time.
The Lovely Rita picked up our next victim (I mean crew member) Dave from Newcastle and brought him to the boat. We had a LOVELY breakfast at the Buttermilk Cafe in the downtown Cobourg. Mark, who lives in Port Hope also joined us for breakfast.
Jenny went back with Rita and we were off:
Rita, Jenny, Mark |
We sailed with the chute until almost Bowmanville.
Here is a shot from shore by Dave's wife from their balcony in Newcastle:
Amazing how big this sail is, and why we can't carry it in more than 12 knots.
Alas the wind had clocked forward and we were back to a headsail.
We had one problem: we were out of beer.
Made a call the Whitby sailor Andrew and he delivered a 6 pack in his Shark:
We did the transfer under main sail, slowing the boat down.
Had to bring the mainsheet in so the boom didn't clip his shrouds!
Motor sailing with main we passed the CBYC Tuesday race night:
The drive back to Newcastle to drop Dave off was uneventful.
