Little Sodus Bay (Fair Haven) to Waupoos is about 43 miles. Winds were forecast to be 12-15 knots from the west and build and swing to the NW mid day. We decided to wake up at 5am and head out.
We left the dock at 5:30am along with First Draft.
Outside the breakwall we encountered 4-6 waves and 25+ knots of wind. Plus the winds had already swung to the NW. Tried to sail with a double reef and a little bit of jib, but could only muster 2 knots pounding close hauled into the waves. Even with the motor running at 2000 RPM, we could only do 4 knots with lots of heal (bad for motor) and very uncomfortable.
So @4 knots, it would take 14 hours to get to the other side of the lake, and we would be beat up and unhappy.
We decided to turn back and re-evaluate.

After a snooze, we all loaded on Tom's boat and motored over to the town dock:
We toured the many shops in town and enjoyed the day.
Look what came sailing by our docks:
We had dinner at an Irish Pub:
And went back after sunset:
