CS34 Whitby to Oak Orchard

We didn't get off the dock until 2pm.

Winds were from the SW 10-15 knots, a beam reach most of the way to Oak Orchard.

7.2 knots of boat speed!!!
Very easy crossing.

My VHF has an AIS receiver built into it.  It communicates with my chart plotter and shows/alarms on "Dangerous Targets".  Half way across, I could see on the chart plotter a 700+ foot long "Target".  The AIS showed it was heading 180 degree with a speed of 12 knots.  We were doing over 7 knots bearing 120: collusion course.  I furled in the headsail to reduce the heel and I put the motor on an got the boat going as fast as I could: 8.1 knots.

About a mile from us, the AIS reported that they altered course to 170 (10 degrees starboard) to duck behind us.

AIS is KEWL!

Winds were diminishing and swung behind us, so we dropped sails and motored the rest of the way, doing 8+ knots surfing the waves.

Sunset while entering the Oak Orchard harbour:

Arrived Oak Orchard at around 8:30pm.

Did the customs video phone check in:

Got to our slip a little after 9pm (this photo from the morning):

There is a bridge between where the customs check in in and the Oak Orchard Yacht Club.  Ports books lists the clearance at 54 ft.  We have a deck stepped 46ft mast that is about 5ft above the waterline.  Add a 3ft antenna on the mast top, and we were very close to touching!

Didn't even think about this until morning!

Ignorance is bliss!

This was from when we were leaving
Looks pretty tight!

What a nice spot.
